If you want to combine adventure, adrenaline and a good dose of nature in one family outing, there is hardly anything better than a day at the bike park. My son (8) and I had exactly that on the agenda - and it took us to one of the most exciting bike parks in Germany: THE MOTHER - Bikepark Winterberg. Hot descents, lots of fun and, of course, unforgettable father-son moments await here.
Starting signal in the bike park: equipment and anticipation
After we had equipped ourselves with helmets and protectors, the excitement grew. The Bikepark Winterberg is known for its varied trails, which are exciting for beginners and experienced riders alike. THE MOTHER promises exciting trails, flowing descents and well-maintained routes. And I have to say: it delivers what it promises!
It was all a bit of an adventure for my son. The fact that we were going to try out steep trails and fast descents got his heart racing - and I have to admit, mine too.
First descent: the adrenaline is pumping!
We opted for one of the easier trails to get our feet wet first. The bike park offers a variety of trails that are graded according to difficulty. For us as “Team Father & Son”, it was important for my son to find his way around the park and get used to the terrain and the speed.
The first descent was a real highlight! We sped down the trail over gentle bends and small jumps. I could see how my son's insecurity disappeared with every bend and turned into joy and a thirst for adventure. He quickly realized that he was in full control of his master and could set the pace.
The “hot” descents: flowy trails and cool features
After the first run-in, we were ready for more. THE MOTHER offers trails with funny names and a lot of features that correspond to a real bike park experience - from flow trails to more technical sections. My son was particularly excited about the flow trails as they gave him a sense of freedom and made riding smooth and safe.
We ventured onto the SRAM Flow Country Trail, a route that is perfect for children and beginners. Here, my son was able to set his own pace and have lots of fun at the same time. The trail winds elegantly down the mountain and offers wide curves and small jumps - all within a safe and controlled framework. It was simply wonderful to see how much he grew and became more confident in these moments.
Family-friendly bike park: a place for every level
One aspect that I particularly like about Bikepark Winterberg is how family-friendly it is. There is a large selection of trails that are adapted according to difficulty and level. The Beginner & Kids Parcours is also a great opportunity for the little ones to improve their skills and gain their first experience on a bike. Here they can playfully learn to keep their balance and familiarize themselves with the terrain.
For breaks in between, there are plenty of places to rest and, of course, a few tasty snacks. My son and I packed ourselves a little picnic and let the sun shine on our helmets while we enjoyed the view over the park and the other bikers.
The highlight of the day: the “North Shore” area
To round off our day, we ventured into the so-called “North Shore” area. Here there are small wooden walkways and waves that promote balance and concentration. My son was on fire and mastered the course with an enthusiasm that could only make me proud.
Conclusion: A day full of adventure and fun at Bikepark Winterberg
Our day at THE MOTHER bike park in Winterberg was a complete success. The mixture of thrills and family-friendliness made the day unforgettable for my son and me. The park offers just the right amount of challenge and safety so that both beginners and advanced riders get their money's worth.
We definitely got a taste for it and are already looking forward to our next trip - perhaps with a few new tricks and a good dose of courage for the even more challenging routes. At the end of the day, there was only one thing that mattered: my son's shining eyes and the memories we made together, which will certainly stay with us for a long time.
See you next time, THE MOTHER - we'll be back!
